Oleg Popov, the master clown in his dressing room is getting ready for a performance (1990).
I had the pleasure of photographing Popov, a warm and witty man — understated, yet a father figure to me. I was just 19, fearless and uninhibited, when Popov gave me the opportunity to photograph the Russian State Circus, both outside and behind the scenes. I couldn’t have wished for a better start to my career as a photojournalist.
